5/7/2024 | Baseball | Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic baseball defeated Florida Gulf Coast 9-6 on Tuesday at home in non-conference midweek action. THE BEGINNING The teams traded unearned runs in the first inning. FGCU scored on Owls’ error and the Owls tied it on a passed ball. It was 3-2 FAU in the fifth when the Owls put together three straight hits. Carter Brady doubled and Patrick Ward picked up an infield single to spark the rally. The two then executed a double steal of second and home and Brando Leroux followed with a double off the left field wall to make it 5-2. Spencer Rich went to the opposite field for an RBI single to add another. THE TURNING POINT The Owls seemed to be in control and on course for a victory until FGCU posted four runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game. Danny Trehey struck out back-to-back Eagles’ hitters with the bases loaded to escape the jam and keep the game tied. In the bottom of the frame, Daulton Frank immediately put the Owls back on top. A solo home run, the first of his career, made it 7-6. John Schroeder then went back-to-back with his ninth homer of the season. They would add one more on a groundball to lead 9-6. THE FINISH Trehey made quick work of the first two hitters in the ninth before running into trouble. Again with the bases loaded, he was able to get a strikeout to end the game and elude any damage.
