TAMPA, Fla., April 28, 2024 –The University of South Florida softball team (31-20, 11-13 AAC) fell to the Florida Atlantic Owls (38-13, 18-6 AAC) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon in front of a season-high 1,681 fans. The Bulls fell with a final score of 6-2.
The 1,681 fans in attendance was the highest all season for the Bulls. In the fall, the Bulls had an attendance of 1,637 when they hosted the Puerto Rico National Team.
Florida Atlantic took the 5-0 lead in the first two innings. After making two impressive defensive plays in the top half of the third inning, Kathy Garcia-Soto (Tampa) led the bottom of the third inning off with a single.
A single from Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel) and an error by the Owls allowed Garcia-Soto to score the Bull’s first run. Olivia Elliott (Tampa) followed with an RBI single to cut Florida Atlantic’s lead to 5-2.
The Owls extended their lead to 6-2 in the seventh inning.
Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) retired eight straight batters through the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Lexie Kopko (Stewartstown, Pa.) and Belle Sardja (Gibsonton) made an appearance in the circle.
