Baseball – Sharks Take SSC Series over Lynn

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team defeated the Lynn Fighting Knights 12-8 in game two of the Sunshine State Conference series on Saturday afternoon at the NSU Baseball Complex. Ryan Cainzos (1-1, HR, 3 RBI) and Zeth Rodriguez (2-4, 3 RBI) both recorded three runs batted in during the game, while Tyson Cooper (4-6, RBI)  added four hits in the effort.

How it Happened
  • Tyson Cooper scored the first run of the game following a hit by pitch by Ryan Cainzos, giving NSU a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Canizos extended the lead to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly. 
  • Lynn scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning, taking a 4-2 lead over NSU. 
  • The Sharks responded with a three-run bottom half of the frame, as Boris Pena drove in both Bryan Loriga and Cooper with a two-run single. 
  • NSU capped off the inning with a bases loaded walk from Zeth Rodriguez, reclaiming the lead at 5-4. 
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Rodriguez drove in a Pena and Henry Wallen, pushing the Sharks lead to 9-4. 
  • NSU’s lead continued to grow following an RBI ground-out by Kristian Noriega and back-to-back singles from Cooper and Justin Wachs, giving Nova Southeastern a 10-4 lead. 
  • Cainzos padded Nova Southeastern’s lead with a solo home run, his first of the season, pushing the lead to 11-4.
  • Lynn scored three runs in the top half of the eighth, cutting the lead to 11-7. 
  • Wachs added another RBI, bringing in Landon Lowe with an RBI ground-out, giving NSU a 12-7 lead. 
  • Lynn plated a run in the ninth, but Michael Dillon closed out the game, as the Sharks earned the 12-8 victory.
