American Athletic Conference Softball Release – April 25

HOME STRETCH

With non-conference play wrapped up as of this week, there are just two series left in conference action in The American.  The top of the league is tight with just one game separating the top three teams.  Florida Atlantic leads the pack at 16-5, while Charlotte and North Texas each sit at 15-6. The 49ers and Mean Green will end the season facing off next week (May 3-5) in Charlotte.

AMERICAN PLAYERS TOP THE CHARTS
Two players in the American Athletic Conference leads the nation in different statistical categories. Wichita State’s CC Wong leads the NCAA in batting average, hitting .480 on the season. East Carolina’s Emma Jackson leads the nation in doubles (23) and doubles per game (0.48). Jackson’s 23 doubles are the most by an American player in a single-season, topping the previous mark of 19 sed by Louisville’s Katie Keller in 2014.

TULSA, FLORIDA ATLANTIC CLASH IN BOCA RATON

Currently sitting four games back in a three-way tie for fourth place, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane will travel to Florida to take on first-place Florida Atlantic looking to make up some ground as the season winds down. The matchup will feature two of the top three hitting teams in the conference as the Golden Hurricane are second in the league in batting average (.309) and the Owls are third (.302).

BARBER MOWS DOWN BLAZERS

Chloe Barber earned American Pitcher of the Week this week following a masterful performance on the mound where she record all but six outs by herself. In the series finale against the Blazers, Barber struck out 15 batters in a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits in the game to help the Shockers secure a series win.
