GREENVILLE, N.C., April 19, 2024 –The University of South Florida softball team (30-17, 9-10 AAC) dropped the series opener to the East Carolina Pirates (31-15, 8-12 AAC) on Friday night.
The Bulls and Pirates made it through two scoreless innings before a two-hour and 45-minute weather delay halted the game.
South Florida was the first team to get on the board. Olivia Elliott (Tampa) started the fourth inning with a lead-off single. Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.) hit an RBI double to give the Bulls the 1-0 lead.
DaNia Brooks (Tampa) followed with her fourth double of the season to bring in the Bulls’ second run.
East Carolina scored four runs in the fifth inning and then added two in the sixth inning.
Belle Sardja earned her 20th start of the season. She pitched 4.1 innings before Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) entered the circle and pitched the remainder of the game.

South Florida and ECU will finish the series tomorrow with a doubleheader due to the potential of weather on Sunday. The first game will start at 2 p.m.
