Bulls set program record, in position for their first conference championship since 2012.
TAMPA, FLA., April 16, 2024 – The University of South Florida women’s golf team has the solo lead after two rounds of the American Conference Women’s Golf Championship. Through the first two rounds, the Bulls stand at 558 (-18), shattering the program record for a 36-hole total of 565, which has been done twice, including earlier this season at the Westbrook Invitational.
Senior Melanie Green, ranked 19th nationally, led the Bulls with a five-under round of 67. After opening with a par, Green went seven-under on her next six holes, carding six birdies and an eagle. She shot 30 (-6) on the front nine, and 37 on the back nine. After an opening 71 (-1) Greens heads into the final round tied for third at 138 (-6), three shots out of the lead. Green leads the field in scoring on the par fives at 4.25 (-6).
Seeking their first conference championship since winning the Big East Championship in 2011-12, USF holds a six-shot lead over second-place Tulsa 546 (-12) and is nine shots better than SMU who is in third place at 567 (-9).
In today’s second round, USF shot 277 (-11), which ties for the second lowest round to par in program history. On a day when the average score for the field was 74.83, all four of the Bulls’ scoring rounds were under par, marking only the third time since 2011-12. The Bulls also accomplished the feat this season in the first two rounds of the Westbrook Invitational.
Play in the final round of the 54-hole event will be played Wednesday, April 17 at 8:00 AM (ET). The Bulls’ tee times are between 8:50 and 9:30 AM (ET).
USF has four players in the Top 10. Along with Green, freshman Emma Falcher is tied for fifth place, two shots behind Green at 140 (-4), graduate student transfer Alyssa Montgomery is a shot back, tied for seventh 141 (-3), and senior Alize Vidal is another shot back at 142 (-2) in a tie for 10th.
Falcher followed yesterday’s 69 (-3) with a 71 (-1), making six birdies. She is tied for the lead with 11 birdies through two rounds.
Alyssa Montgomery improved five shots from the first round with a bogey-free 68. She made four birdies on the way to tying her low round as a Bull.
Vidal has seven birdies in her first two rounds, shooting 68 (-4) in the first round and 74 (+2) in the second round.
Junior Leonor Medeiros improved eight shots to contribute a scoring round of 71 (-1). She is tied for 36th at 150 (+6).

About USF Women’s Golf
The 2023-24 campaign will be the Bulls’ sixth full season under head coach Erika Brennan. South Florida is among the fastest-rising programs in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan’s first season in 2018-19 and have captured five tournament titles under Brennan, while setting numerous program scoring records under her leadership. Senior standout Melanie Green has been an all-conference performer in each of her first three seasons, qualified for the 2022 NCAA Regional as an individual and was named a 2023 All-American Honorable Mention. Green and the Bulls reached the NCAA Regional as a team in 2023, marking the program’s first postseason appearance in 11 years.
