BIRMINGHAM, AL., March 24, 2024 – The University of South Florida softball team (23-13, 3-6 AAC) fell to the University of Alabama-Birmingham (14-17, 5-4 AAC) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. The Bulls fell with a final score of 7-5.
UAB took the early lead, scoring five runs in the opening frame. In the second inning, the Bulls hit four straight singles to score two runs. Kathy Garcia-Soto’s (Tampa) two-RBI single got the Bulls on the board.
The Blazers extended their lead, scoring two runs in the following two innings.
The Bulls added a run in the fourth inning. Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel) walked, advanced on a single from Garcia-Soto, and then stole third. She scored on an RBI single from Alexa Galligani (White Plains, N.Y.).
South Florida kept chipping away at UAB’s lead. In the sixth inning, the Bulls added two runs, one on a single from Garcia-Soto and another on a Blazer miscommunication.
Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) earned her 15th start of the season. Julia Apostolakos (Beachwood, N.J.) made her 14th appearance. She struck out two batters.
Notables
Garcia-Soto went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI.
Galligani had two RBI.
Kadlub also had a multi-hit performance with two hits.
Kadlub and Garcia-Soto had a stolen base.
