American Athletic Conference Softball Release – March 21

TULSA SHUTS OUT OKLAHOMA STATE

The Golden Hurricane put the clamps down on No. 4/6 Oklahoma State on Tuesday, shutting out the Cowgirls 3-0 in Tulsa. Maura Moore tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits, while striking out four batters. The win marks the sixth win over a ranked opponent by an American Athletic Conference team this season.

FOUR TEAMS TIED FOR FIRST PLACE
Through two conference series, four teams are tied for first place in The American with a 5-1 conference record – Florida Atlantic, Tulsa, Charlotte, and North Texas. FAU will take on Memphis, while Charlotte will travel to East Carolina.  The Golden Hurricane and Mean Green will play each other in Denton beginning Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

BATTING AVERAGE LEADERS

Two Florida Atlantic Owls are leading The American in conference play in batting average.  Trinity Schlotterbeck and Kiley Channell are first and second in the league in average.  Schlotterbeck leads The American with a .556 average, as well as a 1.222 slugging percentage, while Channell is second in the league with a .529 batting average.  Three other players are batting .500 or better – UAB’s Hannah Dorsett (.526), Charlotte’s Cori Hoffler (.500) and East Carolina’s Morgan Johnson (.500).

DOUBLING DOWN

Three American teams rank in the top ten in the NCAA in double this season. East Carolina leads the nation with 63 doubles on the year, while Florida Atlantic and Tulsa are ranked 6th in the NCAA with 53 doubles on the year. East Carolina’s Emma Jackson leads the NCAA with 20 doubles, while Florida Atlantic Kiley Channell and Tulsa’s Clara Skaggs rank 7th with 12 doubles on the year.

AMERICAN IN THE RPI

As of March 20, five of the ten American teams are ranked in the Top 50 of the NCAA RPI – Wichita State (29), Charlotte (34), Tulsa (37), Florida Atlantic (41) and South Florida (42).
