MBB | Davis Co-Player of the Year Among Multiple AAC Honors

BOCA RATON, Fla. – In their first year in the American Athletic Conference, the Florida Atlantic’s men’s basketball team is well represented in the AAC awards given out following the conclusion of the 2023-24 regular season.
Johnell Davis has been named the Co-AAC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference, while junior guard Alijah Martin and junior center Vlad Goldin have been named to the All-Conference second team.
Davis put together a spectacular campaign to lead the Owls to a 14-4 conference record, averaging 18.2 points per game (fourth in the conference) on 47.9% shooting from the field and 43.8% on three-point attempts, while also tallying 6.3 rebounds per game (most among AAC guards) and dishing out a team high 95 assists. The junior guard earned two AAC Player of the Week Awards and was named to the weekly honor roll four times. Davis also remains up for several national awards as a top 10 finalist for the Jerry West Award as well as a top 20 finalist for the Wooden Award and is a member of the Top 30 Naismith Midseason Player of the Year watchlist and the Oscar Robertson Trophy All-America watch list.
Goldin had a career year, finishing the regular season with a career high 15.2 points per game (10th in the conference, first among all centers) on 66.7% shooting from the field (third in the nation), 6.8 rebounds per game (10th in the conference), and 1.6 blocks per game (fourth in the conference). He concluded the regular season with six 20+ point outings in his final eight games. Goldin was named to five AAC weekly honor rolls over the course of 2023-24.
Martin averaged 14.3 points per game with 6.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals in conference play. He won AAC Player of the Week in November following winning the MVP at the eight-team ESPN Events Invitational and had one weekly honor roll appearance in January.
The Owls enter their first 2024 AAC Tournament, taking place in Fort Worth, Texas from March 13 through March 17, as the number two seed in the conference. Their first game is on Friday, Mar. 15, against the winner of the North Texas vs. Tulane matchup. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. EST, airing on ESPNU.
