MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the third time this season, Lynn University has claimed multiple Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Awards. Earning the honors this time around are Biatriz Souza Berti from volleyball and Toto Gana of the men’s golf program.
It was a history-making week for Souza Berti and that continued on Monday winning her first career player of the week honor. It started on Friday in a matchup with 7-2 Embry-Riddle when she posted a career-high 55 assists in the four-set win over the Eagles. It was the second time in six matches she achieved a new mark for most assists in a match. Currently, Souza Berti is on a streak of eight consecutive matches having at least 30 assists. Lynn has won seven of those.
Gana who fired a -6 and took home second place in the Miami Intercollegiate Tournament. His final score of 204 helped lead the Fighting Knights to a 24-shot win in the three-round event. Gana’s best score came in the opening round when he carded a 67, which was good for the second-lowest round of the tournament. This was the second-time Gana has taken home POW honors.
Gana and his teammates are done with their fall schedule, while Souza Berti and the Fighting Knights volleyball team continues to push for a postseason spot when they travel to Barry on Tuesday and make the trip to Rollins on Thursday. Lynn is looking to sweep the season series against both of those teams.
