BOCA RATON, Fla. – (Oct. 28, 2019) – Hagay Jalon of the Florida Atlantic University men’s soccer team has been tabbed the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. This is the second honor for Jalon and third for FAU this season.
Goalkeeper Jalon was there when his team needed him the most in the Owls’ 1-0 overtime win over No. 15 Marshall Saturday night. The redshirt senior recorded his second blank sheet of the season, both over top-20 teams, to move him up to sixth all-time in career shutouts at FAU. Jalon’s shutout also marked the Thundering Herd’s first shutout loss of the season, who came into the match outscoring opponents 37-12.
The Haifa, Israel native recorded three saves, each one not easy to collect, to send the Owls off with their biggest win of the season. FAU’s win over Marshall marks the highest ranked team FAU has knocked off since 2000, when the Owls beat No. 4 UAB.
Jalon has posted a 3-3-0 record this season, while tallying 25 saves and a 1.75 Goals Against Average. He was awarded Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2 following his shutout against No. 17 James Madison.
With Jalon’s achievement, the Owls have taken away three C-USA Player of the Week awards, which is the most since 2003 when the Owls were in the ASUN. FAU is 5-6-1 with the most wins since 2013 and three more regular season matches left to play.
The Owls will take on their final nonconference matchup of the season at North Florida on Wednesday. First touch is set for 6 p.m. with live stats and live video available.
