SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The 11th ranked Florida lacrosse team heads into their second game on this west coast trip to take on the UC Davis Aggies. First draw is set for 1 p.m. PST and 4 p.m. EST. The game will take place in San Diego at Aztec Lacrosse Field, streamed on San Diego State’s YouTube Channel.
The Gators are 3-2 on the season, coming off three straight victories, including a 22-6 win over Arizona State on Sunday afternoon. 15 different Gators recorded a point, with 14 of them finding the back of the net. Danielle Pavinelli had her second consecutive four goal game, leading to her earning AAC Attacker of the Week this week. The defense held the Sun Devils to six goals, the second straight game they have held their opponent to under 10 goals. Kaitlyn Davies was named AAC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts on that end of the field. Overall, UF has been led by the three headed attack of Maggi Hall (12 goals, nine assists), Pavinelli (11 goals, five assists) and Emily Heller (10 goals).
This is the second career meeting between these two schools, with it being the first one since February of 2013. Florida was victorious in that matchup by a score of 16-4. These teams will become more familiar with each other starting next season as affiliate members of the Big 12.
Outlook on the Aggies
The Aggies enter this game on a five-game winning streak, sitting at 5-1. They are coming off a victory on Sunday over Davidson by a score of 13-9. UC Davis is coached by Suzanne Isidor, who enters her seventh season with a record of 50-36. The Aggies are led by Grace Gebhardt offensively, having a team high in goals (16) and assists (8) on the year. She is coming off a Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honor, scoring eight goals last week.
Battle of the Keepers
This matchup features two goalies who have won a combined eight straight games in net. The Gator’s Georgia Hoey is currently averaging eight saves a game, with a .666 save percentage over her last three games. Hoey earned AAC Goalkeeper of the Week last week, and was a member of the Honor Roll this week. The Aggies goalkeeper, Ashley Laing has 55 saves this season (tied for 15th in the country), including a season-high of 16 saves against Lindenwood.
