FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Florida Atlantic’s softball team split the opening day in the Wooo Pig Classic as they defeated South Dakota State in the first meeting in program history. Head Coach Jordan Clark recorded her 50th career win at the helm.
After having a 35-20 record in her first season at the helm, in year two Clark has registered her 50th career win just 20 games in.
GAME ONE
The Owls extended their seven-game winning streak after winning their first game in Arkansas. Florida Atlantic got to work early as they scored five runs in the first inning.
The first run on the board for Florida Atlantic came on a bases loaded walk for outfielder Kamryn Jackson to get the game started. The Jackbirds got a total of five runs on the board in the third and fourth inning. The Owls answered back with two more runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Pitcher Trinity Schlotterbeck recorded her sixth win of the season to improve her overall record to 6-2. Junior Ainsley Lambert registered her second save of the season and fifth of her career as an Owl.
GAME TWO
Gabby Sacco started in the circle for the Owls as they faced the Razorbacks for the second time this season. Lambert made her second appearance of the day as she went in relief for Sacco.
Senior Cammeo Presutti hit an RBI single down the left line to put Florida Atlantic on the board and cut the lead for Arkansas. The Razorbacks scored two more runs, but that didn’t stop the Owls to find a way to answer back. In the top of the fifth, Kiley Channell recorded an RBI off a single to right field that brought in Presutti.
QUOTABLE
Head Coach Jordan Clark
“I’m really proud of the fight we showed today. Two really strong opponents who are post season teams. Offensively the first game we kept throwing punches and put a ton of pressure on SDSU. In the Arkansas game we kept it close and showed some fight. I like our improvement from the first time we played them. Overall good day and ready to compete again tomorrow.”
On 50th career win
“Honestly I was surprised we are already at 50 wins. I am so proud of the girls and our staff for helping 50 to come so soon. It’s been a dream come true and I am excited for many more wins!”
