| 2/22/2024 | No. 11 Women’s Beach Volleyball BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 11th-ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team begins its 2024 campaign this weekend in Tampa, Florida as the Sandy Owls compete in the Tampa Invite on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24. The Sandy Owls will face No. 12 Georgia State, No. 17 South Carolina, No. 18 Arizona State, and host Tampa. The Sandy Owls produced a 19-14 record in 2023, marking the second-most by any Owl team. Florida Atlantic also earned its first-ever CUSA championship and second-ever NCAA Championship berth, marking the first time in program history that the Sandy Owls won their conference championship and earned an NCAA postseason berth in the same year. The Owls also closed out the season receiving national attention as the No. 12 team in the nation.The Sandy Owls look to continue their momentum into the 2024 season, entering the year with the program’s highest preseason ranking ever at No. 11.Florida Atlantic also landed four on the CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team, marking the second consecutive season the Sandy Owls have earned a league-leading four CUSA preseason all-conference honors. The Sandy Owls open up the season on Friday against a familiar foe in No. 12 Georgia State at 9 a.m. Florida Atlantic trails the all-time series against Georgia State, 8-11. The Sandy Owls won two of the last three meetings between the two programs, however the Panthers secured a 3-2 victory in the last meeting on April 29, 2022, during the CUSA Championship semifinals. Florida Atlantic closes out its opening day against No. 17 South Carolina at 3 p.m. The Sandy Owls trail 2-6 all-time against South Carolina. The Gamecocks won 3-2 in the last meeting between the two programs on March 18, 2022.Florida Atlantic will then begin play on Saturday at 12 p.m. against No. 18 Arizona State. The Sandy Owls will look to pick up their first-ever win over Arizona State as they fell in a 3-2 battle in the only meeting between the two programs on April 1, 2017. The Sandy Owls will then close out the weekend against host Tampa at 4 p.m. The Sandy Owls hold a perfect 4-0 all-time record against Tampa, which includes a pair of 4-1 victories during the Sandy Owls last two meetings with the Spartans on March 27 and April 2, 2021.
