IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the 12th week of the regular season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mekhi Mason, So., G, Rice
Mason aided the Owls to road victories over Memphis and UTSA, averaging 23.5 points. He scored 17 points in Rice’s win at Memphis on Wednesday before dropping 30 points in the win over the Roadrunners on Saturday.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
PJ Haggerty, G, Tulsa
Haggerty averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in two games for the Golden Hurricane. In Tulsa’s win over Wichita State on Wednesday, the guard had 23 points, was 14-14 from the free throw line and added six rebounds and four assists.
HONOR ROLL
Johnell Davis, Jr., G, Florida Atlantic
Davis recorded 24 points, four rebounds and two assists in the Owls’ win over Tulsa on Saturday
David Jones, Sr., G, Memphis
Jones averaged 22.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in two games for the Tigers, including 26 points and the game-winning shot against Wichita State on Saturday.
Jason Edwards, So., G, North Texas
Edwards put in a pair of 31-point performances against UAB and South Florida last week.
Chris Youngblood, Sr., G, South Florida
Youngblood helped the Bulls win two road games by averaging 18.0 points and 3.0 assists.
Kevin Cross, Sr., F, Tulane
Cross averaged 27.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in two games for the Green Wave.
