UF MGOLF | Gilligan, Gators Lead into Final Round of Sea Best

Ian Gilligan used a 3-under round two to hold the individual lead as Florida seeks its third straight team title at the tournament.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Ian Gilligan and the Florida men’s golf team lead the field after 36-holes of the Sea Best Invitational on Monday.

Behind a round two of 4-under and a strong finish in the opening round, the Gators (+2) own a seven-shot lead into the final 18-holes tomorrow and will be paired with North Florida (+9) and Louisville (+14) and tee off a 9:12 a.m. Florida will seek its seventh win at Sea Best and third straight.

Gilligan moved into the solo lead with a 3-under 67 in the second set of 18-holes at TPC Sawgrass. He first bounced back from triple bogey on his fifth hole in the opening round to finish with an even-par 70. The Long Beach State transfer carries a two-shot lead and aims for his fifth collegiate win, and first as a Gator.

Out of 10 UF golfers in action this week, eight are in the top-25 with Tyler Wilkes just behind Gilligan in T2 at 1-under. The senior, Wilkes, is one of four golfers in the field to sit under-par as she shot a 2-under 68 in round two.

Playing in his third event, freshman Jack Turner is tied for 8th at 1-over. The Orlando native put together rounds of 71-70.

The third Gator to go under-par on the day was Parker Bell (individual) with a 1-under 69 in his second round to end T11. It marked a four-shot difference in his opening round.

A trio of Gators – Quentin Debove, Miguel Leal, Luke Poulter – are all tied for 16th and competing as individuals.

The final counting score in round two came from Matthew Kress, who shot a 71 (+1). A three-shot improvement from his first round. He sits T22.

Rounding out the Gators competing are John DuBois and Ryan Hart in T44.
