UF S&D: Gators Finds Success against FSU With 22 First Place Finishes

Swimming Sweeps Florida State in Ocala; Diving sweeps springboard action.

OCALA, Fla. – The nationally ranked Florida men’s and women’s swimming team took down in-state foe Florida State on Friday afternoon inside the Florida Aquatics Swimming & Training (FAST) facility. The men remain perfect at 7-0 after a 181-118 win over the Seminoles, while the women also captured a 182-119 victory and improve to 7-1.

The Gators claimed a combined 22 first place finishes in 32 events. The women finished with 12, followed by 10 on the men side.

Florida recorded 12 b-cut times, with the women recording eight and the men posting four.

ALL-TIME SERIES – Florida moves to 62-23-1 in the men’s series, and 48-3 in the women’s series.

NO. 3 WOMEN’S RESULTS:

  *   Catie Choate, Molly Mayne, Olivia Peoples and Micayla Cronk won the 200 medley relay to kick off the afternoon with a time of 1:37.77 to give Florida its first 11 points.

  *   In her 1,000 freestyle season debut, Emma Weyant zoomed to a 9:38.64 for first, while teammate Bella Sims followed in second in 9:51.49. Anna Auld came in third after swimming a 9:53.37.

  *   Freshman Bella Sims led the way in the 200 free, as the recent Speedo Signee clocked a b-cut time of 1:47.06, while Emma Weyant came in third with a time of 1:47.80. JoJo Ramey added one point in fourth, recording a 1:50.09 time.

  *   Isabel Ivey and Catie Choate went 1-2 in the 100 free with two b-cut times of 52.50 and 53.59, respectfully. Carly Meeting added a point for the Gators after coming in fifth at 55.57.

  *   In the 100 butterfly, three Gators finished in the top-five. Grace Rainey’s 1:02.07 was good for second, while Olivia Peoples and Anna Moore earned fourth and fifth after 1:02.64 and 1:03.14 finishes, respectfully.

  *   Freshman Lainy Kruger came in third in the 200 fly with a b-cut time of 1:58.97 for three points, while sophomore Zoe Dixon grabbed one point in fifth after posting a 2:02.40.

  *   In the 50 free, Micayla Cronk’s 22.79 headlined the Gators, while Ekaterina Nikonova’s 23.24 and Aris Runnel’s 23.58 was good enough for third and fifth place.

  *   Ivey led the Gator sweep in the 100 free after she recorded a b-cut time of 48.69, while Cronk finished in second in 49.48 and Nikonova followed in third at 49.89.

  *   Choate grabbed her first individual title in the 200 backstroke after clocking a b-cut time of 1:55.63. Weyant added three points after she finished in third with 1:57.79, followed by Dixon’s 2:00.61.

  *   Grace Rainey gave Florida a top-three finish in the 200 breaststroke after she swam a 2:14.68 to earn third. Freshman Julia Podkoscielny added one point after she came in fifth with a time of 2:20.08.

  *   Anna Auld’s 4:52.25 and JoJo Ramey 4:55.02 went 2-3 in the 500 free to earn a combined seven points.

  *   Peoples added another first-place finish after clocking a b-cut 52.59 to come out on top in the 100 fly.

  *   Ivey collected her second individual title of the afternoon in the 200 IM after she recording her another b-cut time of 1:57.32, while Kruger came in third at 2:04.92 and Rainey finished in fifth with 2:05.27.

  *   In the final event of the meet, the 200 free relay team of Bella Sims, Isabel Ivey, Ekaterina Nikonova and Micayla Cronk won first after putting together a 1:31.04.

NO. 4 MEN’S RESULTS:

  *   In the opening event, Adam Chaney, Julian Smith, Scotty Buff and Macguire McDuff finished second in the 200 yard medley to collect the first four points of the meet.

  *   Junior Aryan Nehra headlined the 1,000 free after finishing in 9:00.77, while junior teammate Ben Cote followed in second with 9:06.72 to give the Gators the lead over Florida State.

  *   In the 200 free, Jake Mitchell came in first with a 1:36.44 finish and Eric Brown contributed a point after finishing in fifth at 1:38.23.

  *   Florida swept the 100 back, leb by Sopohomore Cam Abaqueta’s b-cut time of 47.43, who finished just ahead of Adam Chaney’s 47.48. Caleb Maldari’s 47.50 put him in third.

  *   The Gators earned three top-five finishes in the 100 brest, as Aleksas Savickas earned second after clocking a 54.44 time, just in front of Julian Smith’s 54.47. Raphael Rached Windmuller came in fourth at 55.49 for two more points.

  *   Mason Laur and Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero went 1-2 in the 200 fly with a b-cut time of 1:45.63 and a time of 1:46.77, respectfully.

  *   Macguire McDuff added another top-three finish after coming in second in the 50 free at 20.08. Ed Fullum-Hout’s 20.44 and Daniel Gordon’s 20.53 put them in fourth and fifth place, respectfully.

  *   Out of the first break, McDuff posted his third second-place finish with a b-cut time of 43.37 in the 100 free. Fullum-Hout and Jake Mitchell followed in third and fourth after the Sophomore clocked a 44.55, while the senior followed with 45.18

  *   Freshman duo Caleb Maldari and Jonny Marshall went 1-2 in the 200 back, as Maldari swam a b-cut time of 1:43.72 and Marshall went 1:46.59.

  *   In the 200 breast, Savickas and Rached Windmuller finished 2-3 after touching the wall in 1:58.86 and 2:00.14, respectfully. Sophomore Giovanni Linscheer added a point after he came in fifth place with a time of 2:03.77.
  *   Freshman Andrew Taylor led the way in the 500 free after recording a 4:24.05, while senior teammate Jack VanDeusen followed in second in 4:28.76. Ben Cote’s 4:29.19 put him in fourth and added two more points to the Gator’s score.

  *   Freshman Scotty Buff captured the 100 fly title, swimming a 47.45. Abaqueta (48.79) and Smith (49.01) came in fourth and fifth, respectfully to head into the final break of the meet.

  *   Mason Laur came in second in the 200 IM after swimming to a 1:49.55, while Joaquin Pinero Gonzalez followed in third with 1:49.69. Billy Jones was right behind in fourth after he clocked a 1:51.20.

  *   The 200 free relay A-team of Adam Chaney, Ed Fullum-Hout, Julian Smith and MacGuire McDuff finished in first after recording a 1:19.21 in the final event.

DIVING
Diving hosted the Seminoles Friday afternoon and finished on top in all four diving events. The program also recognized its four Gator seniors prior to springboard action.

FLORIDA DIVING 2023-24 SENIOR CLASS

  *   Skip Donald
  *   Carina Lumia
  *   Caroline Pagac
  *   Anton Svirskyi
Peyton Donald earned first place on the 1-meter to collect his second, first-place title as a Gator after scoring a 373.75, while finishing in fourth on the 3-meter with a 358.25. Freshman Conor Gesing recorded his third, first-place finish on the 3-meter board after posting a 391.60, while scoring a 341.75 on the 1-meter, good for third. Skip Donald finished his senior day meet with top-five finishes in both events. The Woodlands, Texas native’s 367.20 earned him third on the 3-meter, while finishing in fifth on the 1-meter with 312.70.
On the women’s side, Ana Monroy swept both springboard events, scoring a 345.00 on 3-meter and a 302.45 on 1-meter. Carina Lumia celebrated her senior meet with two top-three finishes. The Florida native finished second on the 1-meter board with a 299.50 and earned third with 317.70 on 3-meter. Casey Greenberg followed her teammate in fourth after posting a 3-meter score of 317.70. The sophomore finished in fifth on 1-meter with 263.60.
