The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has released the Division I Women’s Top 25 Teams and the Florida Gators now stand at No. 9.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced that the Gators are now ranked the No. 9 team in the nation. Florida was most recently ranked No. 10 in the Division I Women’s Top 25 Poll on Jan. 3, and has since moved up a spot to sit in ninth.
The ITA Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the ITA National Ranking Committee<https://wearecollegetennis.us20.list-manage.com/track/click?u=66662242b6102ae7aa02276c9&id=4c060fe19e&e=fefd408094>. The National Ranking Committee is made up of the 13 ITA Region Chairs, with each chair casting an individual, secret ballot.
In addition to Florida, five other SEC teams are ranked in the Top 25: Georgia (3), Texas A&M (10), Auburn (11), Vanderbilt (17) and Tennessee (18). The Gators will face each SEC opponent and meet nationally-ranked Pepperdine (8) and Michigan (5) during their 2024 spring season. In addition, Florida will also play the Baylor Bears, and Florida State before conference play. Both Baylor and Florida State received votes in the ITA poll but did not make the top 25 list.
Florida’s No. 9 ranking is a significant jump from last year’s preseason rank of 18, proving that the Gators had a successful 2023 season. Florida ended last spring going 18-8 with nine wins against ranked opponents, including a big victory over third-ranked Michigan. The top 10 ranking also comes from successful 2023 fall play, where the Gators saw an all-Florida Regional final with Emily De Oliveira<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/emily-de-oliveira/16141> defeating Rachel Gailis<https://floridagators.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/rachel-gailis/16143> in the 2023 ITA Regional Championship match.
