No. 17 Owls Travel to N.C. to Take on the 49ers

CHARLOTTE, N.C– The No. 17 Florida Atlantic University Men’s Basketball team (10-3, 1-0 AAC) will travel to North Carolina to take on Charlotte (6-7, 0-1 AAC), on Saturday at 4 p.m. EST. The game will be aired on ESPN+

This will mark the first American Athletic Conference road game for the Owls, who are very familiar with the 49ers. Both teams competed in Conference USA. Florida Atlantic has the matchup advantage 8-6 and owns a four-game winning streak, including a sweep of the previous season’s games. Junior guard Alijah Martin has averaged 16.5 points per game in these contests.

LAST TIME OUT
The No. 17 Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team’s inaugural American Athletic Conference campaign is officially underway following a 79-64 win over ECU at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Jan. 2. The Owls held the Pirates without a field goal for the last six-and-a-half minutes and closed the evening on a 14-1 run. Junior guards Johnell Davis and Martin each dropped 20 points and junior center Vlad Goldin tallied a double-double. Teamwork was on display with all nine FAU players who entered the game recording at least one assist for a team total of 21.

STATS & NOTES

  • The 21-6 advantage in assists marked the biggest gap for the Owls all season
  • This marked the third game in which the Owls hit 10+ shots from beyond the arc (11)
  • Now at 505 career rebounds, Davis has become just the fifth Owl in program history to tally over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds
  • Since the beginning of December, Davis has averaged 21.0 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game and 2.3 steals per game
  • The dynamic duo of Davis and Martin have seven combined outings of 20+ points this season, two of these instances coming in the same game
  • Goldin, the nation’s leader in field goal percentage at 73.6%, now has four double-doubles on the season
  • Senior guard Bryan Greenlee is coming off his season high 13 points
  • The 49ers feature three double-digit scorers led by redshirt junior guard Ly’Cue Patterson (14.1 points per game), followed by junior forward Igor Milicic Jr. (11.9) and redshirt sophomore center Dishon Jackson (10.3)
