BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls (5-6, 0-0 AAC) will open up their inaugural American Athletic Conference campaign on Saturday, hosting the UAB Blazers (9-3, 0-0 AAC) for a 1 p.m. battle inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena and on ESPN+.

FLORIDA ATLANTIC: AT A GLANCE
- The Owls enter their first-ever AAC season at 5-6 on the season, looking to bounce back after a loss to San Diego State in their non-conference finale.
- As a team, the Owls rank in the top half in the AAC in numerous categories. Florida Atlantic ranks third in fewest fouls per game (14.9), fourth in 3-point percentage (.323) and free throw attempts per game (20.8), sixth in scoring defense (61.7) and field goal percentage defense (.369), and seventh in 3-pointers per game (5.9) and defensive rebounds per game (26.6).
- The Owls offense is paced by Aniya Hubbard, Mya Perry, Jada Moore, and Janeta Rozentale. Hubbard boasts a team-leading 18.2 points per game, while Perry, Moore, and Rozentale have turned in 12.5, 11.0, and 10.6 points per game, respectively.
- Rozentale also leads the Owls on the glass, collecting a team-best 8.5 rebounds per game, while also tallying three double-doubles so far this season.
- Devyn Scott and Rose Caverly are the Owls’ leading point guards, dishing out a team-leading 2.4 and 2.1 assists per game, respectively.
- Dyllan Hanna is Florida Atlantic’s blocks leader, tallying 1.1 blocks per game this season.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Owls fell in a tough 75-48 defeat against San Diego State to close out non-conference play.
- Three Owls registered double-digits in the contest, led by Janeta Rozentale.
- Rozentale turned in her third double-double of the season, scoring a team-leading 12 points, shooting 38 percent (5-of-13) from the field, while also leading the Owls on the glass with 11 boards. She also added an assist and a steal.
- Mya Perry scored a team second-best 11 points, shooting 40 percent (2-of-5) from 3-point range and 30 percent (3-of-10) from the field, in addition to adding a rebound and an assist.
- Dyllan Hanna rounded out the Owls double-digit scorers with a season-high 10 points, shooting 75 percent (3-of-4) from the field and 67 percent (4-of-6) from the line, and adding five rebounds.
SCOUTING UAB
- UAB opens up AAC play at 9-3 overall after falling in their non-conference finale against Saint Joseph’s on Dec. 21, 63-57.
- As a team, the Blazers lead the AAC in 3-point percentage defense (.239), free throw percentage (.828), and fewest fouls per game (14.3), and rank second in free throws made per game (16.1), third in winning percentage (.750), scoring offense (72.4), scoring margin (11.5), 3-pointers per game (7.5), 3-point attempts per game (22.2), 3-point percentage (.337), and turnovers per game (14.9).
- Offensively, the Blazers are led by Mia Moore and Tracey Bershers. Moore has recorded a team-leading 17.9 points per game this season, while Bershers has tallied 10.3 points per game.
- Moore also leads UAB on the glass, grabbing a team-best 10.1 rebounds per game, and in steals, collecting 1.9 steals per game.
- Denim DeShields leads UAB in assists, dishing out 5.3 assists per game.
- The Blazers’ blocks leader is Maddie Walsh, who has tallied 0.9 blocks per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- Florida Atlantic trails 4-12 all-time against UAB, including a 2-5 record for contests played in Boca Raton. However, the Owls have won two of the last four contests against the Blazers, including an 80-75 win in the last meeting on Feb. 2, 2023, in Boca Raton.

- Following Saturday’s contest, the Owls will head out on their first AAC road trip of the year, traveling to Dallas to face SMU on Jan. 4, 2024.
