West Palm, Fla. Dec. 19, 2023 –South Florida women’s basketball (7-4) heads to the Atlantic coast for the West Palm Beach Classic. The Bulls will square off against IUPUI (2-8) on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 1:15 p.m. and No. 10/13 Baylor (9-0) on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 3:30 p.m.
SOUTH FLORIDA-IUPUI SERIES
Wednesday marks the fourth meeting between the Bulls and the Panthers but the first
at a neutral site. The series spans back to the 1999 season and USF holds a 2-1 all-time advantage against IUPUI. In the last clash, USF fell to the Panthers, 77-71 (Dec. 19, 2002).
SOUTH FLORIDA-BAYLOR SERIES
Thursday marks the fifth meeting between the Bulls and the Bears, and the series reaches back to the 1998-99 season. Baylor holds a 4-0 all-time advantage against South Florida. The most recent matchup resulted in a 67-62 Baylor win (Dec. 2, 2020).
OPPORTUNITY WAITS FOR NO ONE
A win against No. 10/13 Baylor would be the program’s 30th win against a Power-5 opponent since 2012-13. A victory against 10/13 Baylor would be the program’s 22nd win against a ranked opponent & Coach Fernandez’s 20th victory versus a ranked squad.
LAST TIME OUT
South Florida lost, 66-54, to No. 3/4 NC State on Saturday night. Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy led the Bulls with a season-high 11-point output and two assists. Sophomore wing Carla Brito (10 points) rounded out the USF performers who finished the night in double figures. Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt grabbed a season-best 12 boards and added eight points.
BULL LEADERS
USF is led by freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh (14.3 ppg). Blasigh (32 3PM) is ranked 15th nationally in total 3-pointers made. Sophomore wing Carla Brito (9.9 ppg.) leads on the glass with 7.4 rebounds per contest, which ranks fifth in the American. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dishes out a team-best 3.6 assists per contest. Wilson’s 40 total assists rank fourth in the American.
