American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, December 17.

Player of the Week

Mia Moore, R-So., G, UAB

Moore finished with her fifth double-double on the season in the Blazers win over South Carolina State. She scored 21 points and came down with 12 rebounds, the fourth time in the past five games that she has had ten or more rebounds.  Moore also went 12-of-13 from the charity stripe in the win.

Freshman of the Week

Jade Weathersby, Fr., F, UAB

Weathersby had 15 points and six rebounds in the win over South Carolina State to earn her second Freshman of the Week honor.  She went 4-of-7 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. She has scored in double-figures five times this season.

Weekly Honor Roll

Mya Perry, So., G, Florida Atlantic

Perry averaged 21.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in games against FIU and Howard.  She scored 24 points and came down with five rebounds in the game against FIU.

DesiRay Kernal, Gr., F, North Texas

Kernal scored 18 points, dished out four assists and came down with six rebounds in the Mean Green win over Louisiana.

Tiara Young, Gr., G, SMU

Young scored 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting, while grabbing five rebounds in SMU’s 69-53 win at Louisiana Tech.

Aleah Nelson, 5th, G, Temple

Nelson led the Owls to a pair of wins over Delaware and La Salle.  She scored 22 points and dished out five assists in the win over Delaware.

Aysia Proctor, Fr., G, UTSA

Proctor averaged 19.5 points and eight rebounds in games against Houston and Oregon.  She had a 21 points, 11 rebounds performance at Oregon.
