American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, December 10.

Player of the Week

DesiRay Kernal, Gr., F, North Texas

Kernal led the Mean Green to a pair of wins while averaged 23.5 points and 11 rebounds.  She started the week with 28 points, 12 rebound performance in a win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, before following up with an 19 point, 10 rebound performance against Alcorn State.

Freshman of the Week

Vittoria Blasigh, Fr., G, South Florida

Blasigh scored a career-high 31 points in South Florida’s win over Gardner-Webb.  She shot 12-for-17 from the field, including 5-for-8 from behind the arc.  Blasigh added four rebounds and three assists in the win.

Weekly Honor Roll

Mia Moore, R-So., G, UAB

Moore led the Blazers to a win over Nicholls, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the win.

Danae McNeal, Gr., G, East Carolina

McNeal scored 34 points and came away with four steals to led the Pirates to a win over UMES.

Ines Piper, Sr., F, Temple

Piper finished with a 16 point, 10 rebound double-double as the Owls took down Penn, 61-47 on Sunday.

Kyren Whittington, R-Jr., G, Tulane

Whittington averaged 22 points, six rebounds and 4.5 steals in a pair of wins for the Green Wave

Temira Poindexter, Jr., F, Tulsa

Poindexter led Tulsa to a pair of wins, averaging 21 points and 7.5 rebounds in wins over Central Arkansas and Florida.
