This Sunday, our Cadiac Cats (9-3) travel to Chicago to face off against division rival the Bears (4-8). In our first meeting at Ford Field. The Lions struggled against their revamped defense but still managed a historic come from behind victory that has never been duplicated in NFL History. Because the Bears are still learning how to win games. The seem to lack that killer instinct in the 4th quarter.
I think the biggest boon to help our defense with their struggles versus mobile QBs might have been activated for practice a week ago. Hendon Hooker being available as an athletic protagonist against the defense, in game situation practice may provide them the catalyst for stopping. Because for the first time they have someone with more than 10th of Fields and other mobile QBs athleticism.
Prior to their bye week we saw that Bears triumph over the other divisional rival, the Minnesota Vikings with 4 FGs Because their then starting QB couldn’t keep the ball out of Chicago defenders hands (4 Interceptions!!!) The worst Goff has ever done in his career. And it’s only happened twice is 3 INTs. Plus our offense can usually score multiple TDs (The Bears won the game 12-10 with 4 FGs. They could not get into the end zone!!!)
With the return of Jonah Jackson to practice. That may add some well needed stability on Goff’s Blindside (LG), which jas been a carousel when he misses time (4 games the most in any season of his 4 years here.) The emergence of an even better running game than last season (D-Mo and Jahmyr Gibbs), the Bears still do struggle with Stout Run games.
With wind and snow possible this Sunday. I expect a steady diet of the run game. Because the weather will effect how the football travels when passing.
When people try to say that Jared Goff struggles in cold weather. I kind of have to laugh. He’s one of 3 QBs with a winning record in Lambeau in January. 4-2 in his career. Boasting a 93.7 QBR in possibly the coldest stadium at that time of year.
I expect the Lions should win handedly, if they run the ball effectively and neutralize the threat on the ground of Justin Fields.
