Nilsson Nets Overtime Winner in Lynn Women’s Soccer’s Win at Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s soccer team refused to be denied its first Sunshine State Conference (SSC) win on Saturday evening, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Tampa 3-2 in overtime on a goal from Johanna Nilsson.

STATS OF THE GAME:·       Nilsson tallied two shots on goal and provided the difference in the match in the 97th minute, scoring an unassisted goal to garner the Blue and White their first SSC win of 2019.·       Anniina Sankoh fired one into the back of the net to put Lynn ahead in the 14th minute, but two straight Tampa goals put the Spartans up 2-1.·       Jessica Archer equalized the Fighting Knights in the 69th minute to set the stage for Nilsson’s OT winner.·       Devan Malcolm earned the win, making four saves on six shots in 97:26 of action.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:·       Lynn has now won two straight over Tampa, winning 1-0 at home on Oct. 13, 2018.·       Archer’s goal was her second of the season and first in conference play.·       With each scoring in tonight’s match, Nilsson and Sankoh have combined to net 23 of Lynn’s 38 goals.·       Sankoh leads the SSC in goals with 14 and overall points with 32. She has now scored four times in conference play.
