Sandman Puts Tampa to Bed in Lynn Men’s Soccer Victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – A quick strike by Levin Sandmann minutes into the second half swung momentum in Lynn University’s favor and a goal from Lukas Ostermann gave the fourth-ranked men’s soccer team a 3-2 victory over Tampa on Saturday.  Sandmann recorded his first multi-goal game of the season while Ostermann added a goal and an assist.

STATS OF THE GAME:

·         Tampa surprised Lynn with a goal 11:31 into the match.

·         Sandmann knotted the game at 1-1 in the 49th minute when Ostermann’s shot deflected to his feet for an open net goal.

·         The creative lefty attacker then found the back of the net after a combination of passes from Lukas Hombach and Lukas Boerner to put Lynn ahead 2-1 in the 62nd minute.

·         Tampa’s Omar Thalie scored the equalizer in the 71st minute, his second of the game but Ostermann added the winner three minutes later off a perfectly placed cross by Alexandre Horveno.

·         Lynn outshot Tampa 25-9 with Spartans keeper Jake Richards tallying nine saves.  Konstantin Fuhry made two stops in the victory.

·         The Fighting Knights logged six first-half corner kicks and ended the match with an 8-6 advantage over Tampa.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

·         This is Sandmann’s first multi-goal game as a member of the Fighting Knights, though he had eight multi-goal matches at his previous institution, Francis Marion.

·         The senior out of Heidelberg, Germany, leads the team with six goals and 14 points.

·         Horveno added to his conference-leading assist total with his seventh.  The suave left-footer is now tied for second in Division II.

·         Lynn is unbeated in its last three matches against Tampa (2-0-1).

·         This is the fourth multi-goal game for the Blue and White.  Lynn has not scored multiple goals in this many consecutive contests since a six-game stretch during the 2016 season.

·         This is only the second time a John Rootes coached Lynn team has started a season unbeaten through 11 matches, the last occurring in his first season, 2008 (12-0-0).
