American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Release – Nov. 14

THE WEEK AHEAD

American teams will have opportunities to pick up ranked wins this week. Temple will travel to No. 23 Ole Miss on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET, while SMU will host No. 5 Colorado at Moody Coliseum on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET. Memphis will be playing in the Bahamas and will take on (RV) Arizona on Saturday with a possibility of playing No. 23 Ole Miss on Sunday.

HOME COOKING

Through one week of games, teams in The American have shown a strong home court advantage, going a combined 20-2 in games played on their home floor. The 20 home wins in is the 6th most among all conferences and just one win behind the Big Ten and Big 12.

GRIGGS CLOSING IN ON MEMPHIS THREE POINT RECORD

After hitting another four three-pointers in the overtime loss to Tennessee, 5th Year Memphis guard Madison Griggs is just six three-pointers away from breaking the all-time three-point record at Memphis for men and women, set by Rodney Carney in 2006. She has 282 in her career, which is 4th all-time in The American for women’s basketball.

MUSTANGS CALLING THEIR SHOTS

The SMU Mustangs have proven to be a lethal team through the first week of the season.  They rank second in the NCAA in three-point field goal percentage (.519), fourth in field goal percentage (.542).

DEFENSIVE STALWARTS

American Athletic Conference teams have been a force on defense early on, leading all conferences with 355 steals on the season. East Carolina leads the conference and the nation in steals per game (26.0), while Temple (13.0) and North Texas (12.7) are both ranked in the Top 50 in the nation .
