Joshua Liendo, Conor Gesing, Isabel Ivey, Ana Monroy and Bella Sims all earn weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 3/7 ranked Florida men’s and women’s swim and dive team continue to dominate the weekly SEC honors in the early 2023 season. Joshua Liendo was named SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week and Conor Gesing earned Men’s Freshman of the Week. On the women’s side, Isabel Ivey was named Co-Swimmer of the Week, Ana Monroy earned Diver of the Week and Bella Sims added her third Freshman of the Week honor to her collegiate resume.
Liendo placed first in his four events during last week’s win against No. 9 Georgia, posting two season-bests in the 50 free and the 100 fly. The Canadian native posted a B-cut time of 19.30 in the 50 free to record the second-fastest time in the nation. His 100 fly time of 46.30 marks the fastest time in the conference and sixth-fastest in the nation. The Sophomore was also a member in the 200 medley and the 400 free relay A teams that took first. It is the second weekly conference honor for Liendo this season and the fifth of his career.
Conor Gesing earned his third SEC honor of the season and in his career, snagging his first Freshman of the Week honor. The Pennsylvania native remains undefeated (6-0) in his three meets so far this season after posting a personal best 364.73 in the 1-meter. He scored a 375.00 in the 3-meter in Florida’s win against No. 9 Georgia.
On the women’s side, Isabel Ivey secured Co-Swimmer of the Week after finishing in the top-two in all four of her events during last week’s win against No. 13 Georgia. The Gainesville, Fla. Native finished in the top spot after posting a B-cut time of 52.59 in the 100 back, recording the tenth-fastest time in the nation and a new Florida-personal best. Ivey also recorded season-bests in the 50 free and the 100 fly, clocking a 22.85 in the 50 free to place first and 53.15 in the 100 fly to earn second. She was also a member of the 400 free relay A team that won first. It is the first weekly honor for Ivey this season.
Ana Monroy was name Diver of the Week for the second time this season after placing first in both diving events against No. 13 Georgia to remain undefeated in her collegiate career. The freshman set two new season-bests after scoring a 326.10 in the 1-meter and 338.85 in the 3-meter. Her 326.10 is tied for fourth-best in the nation, and is the best score in the conference.
Bella Sims tallied her third Freshman of the Week this season after finishing first in all four of her events against No. 13 Georgia. The Nevada native posted B-cut times in her two individual events as well as set two collegiate personal-bests. Sims touched the wall in 1:54.84 in the 200 free and in 4:44.36 in the 500 free, which both are the twelfth-fastest times in the nation. She was also a member in the 200 medley and the 400 free relay A teams that took first.
The Gators are back in action on Nov. 3, when the teams travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for a top-25 tri-meet against both sixth-ranked Tennessee programs and the No. 19 women and the No. 25 men Kentucky Wildcats at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. The meet is slated for a 11 a.m. start.
