Dan Campbell spoke to 97.1 The Ticket on Monday and said there would more than likely be no major moves this trade deadline. Because he does not want to upset the Chemistry of this team. With only 6.3 in cap room. It makes sense.
In order for them to get a big flashy name. It would require one of 3 things. So far none has happened.
1) A restructure or trade including Jared Goff. I don’t see either happening, because the Lions sit on top of the division. And the extension talks have failed twice so far. Once before the draft and just recently.
2) Restructuring Taylor Decker. He just got into his first year of big money contract. They have a get out of Decker free year coming up, if they feel someone this draft is worth filling those shoes.
3) Restructuring Frank Ragnow’s contract. Wh8ch wouldn’t help this year anyways with it being the 5th year and he’s technically on his rookie contract still. I don’t think it can be done.
Most teams like to keep around 3-4 million in salary cap for signing players due yo injury. Which is the biggest reason I see no trades will go down before 4 pm on Tuesday October 31st.
The Lions should be getting CJGJ and James Houston back from IR shortly to help shore up the secondary and defensive line.
This coupled with the fact only 1 team has winning record on the remaining schedule. It might be hard, but not impossible for the Lions to lose even 3 more games this year.
GM Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell has been the most transparent staff to the fans and media. May be one day they’ll realize it isn’t just coach speak.
