Conference Tournament Bound
Three teams have clinched their spots for the American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship – Charlotte, FIU and SMU. Memphis will look to join the trio this weekend. A win over South Florida will guarantee the Tigers a spot in the championship.
Battle For The Number One Seed
SMU (16 pts), Charlotte (15 pts) and FIU (13 pts) are all looking to earn the No. 1 seed for the upcoming championship, which will secure home field advantage and a first-round bye. The Mustangs are in the driver’s seat and will earn the top seed with wins in their final two games. The 49ers and Panthers face off on Friday at 7 p.m. in a pivotal game as Charlotte holds a two-point lead over FIU with two matches remaining.
Owls End Panthers Unbeaten Streak in Conference Play
Florida Atlantic came away with three important conference points last Saturday, defeating in-state rival and 14th-ranked FIU 2-1 in Boca Raton. The win ended a 14-match unbeaten streak by the Panthers in conference play and gave the Owls their first win over FIU since 2013.
Offensive Outing For Rodrigues dos Santos
Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos of Memphis tied The American 2023 season-high for points in a match during conference play with five in the win against Temple. The junior midfielder scored a goal and assisted on the three other Tiger goals to help Memphis win their fourth straight match..
American in the RPI
Five of the nine teams in The American are ranked in the Top 100 of the RPI as of October 15. SMU leads the pack and sits in the Top 5 at No. 4. FIU (19), Memphis (35) and Charlotte (38) are all three in the Top 50, while South Florida is at 79.
