IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, October 22.
Offensive Player of the Week
Jamison Wheeler, Jr., OH, SMU
Wheeler earns her third straight Offensive Player of the Week honor after guiding SMU to a pair of wins over Rice to put the Mustangs in first place in The American. The outside hitter averaged 4.22 kills per set while hitting .270 against the Owls.
Defensive Player of the Week
Avery Luoma, Gr., RS, Temple
Luoma was a force for the Owls on defense against Charlotte. She averaged 4.11 digs per set and 1.11 blocks per set in two wins against the 49ers. She began the weekend with a 21 dig, six block performance and followed it up with a 16 dig, four block outing.
Weekly Honor Roll
Angeles Alderete, So., OH, East Carolina
Alderete averaged 3.43 kills per set, 3.57 digs per set and 0.71 blocks for set in a pair of wins over Memphis.
Treyaunna Rush, Sr., OPP, North Texas
Rush hit .316 with 17 kills to lead North Texas past South Florida, 3-1.
Buse Hazan, So., OH, South Florida
In the lone match of the week, Hazan finished with 27 kills while hitting .358 against North Texas.
Gabi Maas, So., L, Wichita State
Maas finished with 5.71 digs per set, recording 21 digs in the first match against Tulsa and 19 in the second match.
Izzi Strand, Sr., S, Wichita State
Strand paced the Shockers to a pair of wins over Tulsa, dishing out 11.71 assists per set as the Shockers hit .294 as a team.
