IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, October 15.
Offensive Player of the Week
Jamison Wheeler, Jr., OH, SMU
Wheeler claims her second straight American Offensive Player of the Week honor, averaging 5.33 points per set and 5.17 kills per set while hitting .288 in a pair of wins over Tulsa. She had a 16 kill, 12 dig performance in the first match against the Golden Hurricane and ended the week with a 15 kill, seven dig outing in a sweep of Tulsa.
Defensive Player of the Week
Alex Glover, Gr., MB, SMU
Glover had a dominant week at the net for the Mustangs, averaging 2.33 blocks per set in a pair of sweeps over Tulsa. In the first match against the Golden Hurricane, she finished with four blocks and followed that up with a season-high 10 blocks in the final match against Tulsa.
Weekly Honor Roll
Farah Farooq, Fr., MB, East Carolina
Farooq was a menace on offense and defense for the Pirates, averaging 3.63 kills per set and 1.50 blocks per set in a pair of wins over Temple.
Isabelle Northam, Fr., L/DS, Florida Atlantic
Northam helped the Owls take down first place Rice in five sets, finishing the match with 25 digs.
Clara Bednarek, Sr., MB, Memphis
Bednarek averaged 1.57 blocks per set for the Tigers in a pair of wins over UAB, including a weekend-high seven blocks in the first match.
Emilia Weske, Gr., RS, Rice
Weske finished with 27 kills and four blocks in the lone match of the week for the Owls.
Buse Hazan, So., OH, South Florida
Hazan had an all-around performance for the Bulls, finishing with a pair of double doubles to help South Florida earn two wins over Charlotte.
