Jolene Shepardson earned her 150th career win
TAMPA, October 13, 2023 – The South Florida Bulls (12-7, 6-2 AAC) put together an exclamation-point sweep over the Charlotte 49ers (9-10, 2-5 AAC) on Friday night, giving Head Coach Jolene Shepardson her 150th career win.
The Bulls won with scores of 25-21, 25-10, 25-17.
Maria Clara Andrade (São Paulo, Brazil) and Buse Hazan (Istanbul, Turkey) led the way for South Florida, combining to finish with 30 of the Bull’s 49 kills in the match. Defensively, Tizi Puljiz (Resistencia, Argentina) ended with three total blocks, followed by Caroline Dykes (Flower Mound, Texas) who had two of her own to account for.
South Florida and Charlotte battled all through the opening set, tying six times. The Bulls closed out the set with a 4-1 run.
The Bulls would put together a 15-point victory over Charlotte in the middle set, going on a 12-2 run and holding a double-digit lead throughout the majority of the set.
South Florida jumped out to a dominant 17-12 lead in the final set. Charlotte went on a late run, but an error by the 49ers would seal the sweep for the Bulls.
NOTABLES
- Niki Khoshatefeh (Temecula, Calif) finished with four kills and one solo block.
- Miya Thomas (Gainesville) led the match with two service aces.
- Hazan registered her third double-double of the season.
UP NEXT
South Florida and Charlotte will close out the weekend on Sunday, October 15 for the annual Dig Pink match. The match is set for 2 p.m.

Head coach Jolene Shepardson enters her fourth season at the helm of her alma mater in 2023. Named head coach on Jan. 8, 2020, Shepardson led the Bulls’ program to its last conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance as a student-athlete in 2002. USF made its last postseason appearance in 2018, posting 20 wins and appearing in the NIVC. USF Volleyball has made seven NCAA Tournament appearances and won 12 conference titles since its inception in 1972.
