Mustangs, Panthers Draw in Anticipated Match
The battle of the final two undefeated teams finished in a draw on Sunday, as then-No.4/5 SMU tied No. 25 FIU 2-2 in Miami. The Mustangs took an early 2-0 advantage, but the Panthers battled back to tie the match in the 54th minute. The draw moved FIU into first place in The American with 13 points. The Panthers have not lost a conference match in 13 matches.
90th Minute Magic
The Charlotte 49ers improved to 4-1 in conference play with a 2-1 win over South Florida on Sunday (Oct. 8). Daniel Moore scored off a corner kick from Matthew Kirk with 16 second remaining in the match to put the 49ers ahead. The win kept Charlotte in second place in The American, just one point back from FIU.
Temple Takes Down Syracuse
The Temple Owls defeated No. 10 and defending NCAA National Champions Syracuse on Tuesday night in Syracuse, 2-1. Rocco Haeufgloeckner’s 89th minute goal secured the win for the Owls, marking the first win over a top 10 team since 2021.
The win comes off the heels of the Owls picking up their first conference win of the season, scoring a season-high three goals in the clean sheet win over Florida Atlantic. Sophomore forward Felix Ewald scored two of the three goals, within 14 minutes of each other, to lift the Owls to victory.
Tigers Earn Top 10 Win
The Memphis Tigers are coming off an impressive week, which included a win over then-No. 9 Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. It is the first top 10 win since 2021 for the Tigers. Memphis ended the week by picking up its first American win of the season in a 2-1 win over Tulsa.
