In-State Matchup this Week

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University football heads into this Saturday’s matchup at USF on Saturday, with a 1-0 American Athletic Conference record, and with the knowledge that the Owls are blessed with two elite offensive weapons.

Heading into the 3:30 p.m. contest that will air on ESPN2, FAU’s junior receiver LaJohntay Wester is ranked No. 1 in the AAC and nation with 99.8 receiving yards per game. The Palmetto, Florida native (20 minutes from USF), is also No. 1 in punt return yards per game. Balancing out the offensive attack is senior running back Larry McCammon III, who leads the league with 91.75 yards per game and No. 26 nationally. Last weekend, the duo combined for 228 of the team’s 378 yards, or 60% of the Owls offense.

FAU will need all Wester and McCammon can offer and much more to counter a USF offensive attack that is averaging 31 points per game and a total of 441.5 yards per game. USF, the older of the two programs by four years, holds a 3-1 record versus FAU. Three of the four previous meetings were played at Raymond James Stadium, with the Owls upending the Bulls 28-10 back in 2013.
