A 3rd Victory In A Week?
By: Jeremy T. Ballreich
So back in March prior to the draft. We awoke to the news of 1st round pick from 2022 Jameson Williams was suspended due to gambling on a college game while in his hotel room. A college game, but alas, along with 3 other teammates, 8 player assistants and lower level player coaches. The players CJ Moore, Quintez Cephus, and Stanley Berryhill. The last 3 mentioned are no longer on the Lions roster.
Fast forward to 2 weeks before the draft, and before the wake of a 2nd round of suspensions went around the NFL. The NFL admitted to saying the penalty in that first wave of suspensions may have been too harsh. The Olinemen from the Tennessee Titans Nicholas Petit-Frere, Safety and Special Teams Player CJ Moore, and Jameson Williams being the specific players affected.
On September 29th, 2023 the NFL reworked the suspension rulings, now that rule has an actual suspension I agree with. If you bet on other sports from any facility associated with the team is 2 weeks. Of you bet on the NFL, it’s a year. But if you bet upon your team in the NFL it is automatically a 2 year suspension. This of course, only pertains to first time offenders.
So, in retrospect, WR #9 Jameson Williams had already endured a 4 week suspension. As did the other 2 mentioned earlier. The NFL Ruled they are fully reinstated come Monday. A 3rd Victory In A Week for the Lions. And it couldn’t be sweeter. I’m sure the Titans are happy to have Petit-Frere back as well. As their Oline is banged up.
While Jameson didn’t get to light up the stat sheet last season. We saw what his speed was capable of. Unfortunately his other big 3 plays than the wide open PA pass for a Touchdown in Minnesota. They all 3 were called back on penalties. Thus negating them from the stat sheet. Other wise he would have had a statline of 3 catches 102 yards and 2 TDs. Along with 1 carry for 41 yards. But what ifs and could have beens do not count in life or the league.
Kudos to Jamo taking his punishment like a man. Supporting his team through Social Media on Twitter (X) and Twitch. Watching him.game stream on Madden using the Lions and running Run, Pass, Option plays with Jared Goff until his opponent rage quits is hilarious. He loves Goff and the team for those that don’t follow him!
Looking forward to possibly helping the Lions get their revenge upon the Carolina Panthers October 8th, 2023 in Ford Field.
