Six men and three women Gators’ among nation’s best talent.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 2023-24 U.S. Swimming National Team, announced Tuesday by USA Swimming, will feature six current or former Gators on the men’s roster and three current Gators on the women’s roster, including Assistant Coach Annie Lazor.
“The 2023-24 National Team roster truly showcases the depth of American swimming,” USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Lindsay Mintenko said. “A young group of emerging swimmers will learn from veteran leaders as the athletes prepare for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Swimming and the Olympic Games next summer.”
Athletes qualified by being one of the top six fastest eligible swimmers in each individual Olympic event from January 1, 2023 through September 9, 2023.
The men’s team is comprised of two former Gators, as 800m, 1,500m and 1,650m freestyle American Record holder Bobby Finke competes in the 800 and 1500 free and 400 individual medley. Kieran Smith, who owns the 500 free American Record, also earned multiple spots in the 200 and 400 free.
Current Gators Adam Chaney, Mason Laur, Macguire McDuff and Jake Mitchell round out Florida men’s representatives. Current juniors, Laur and McDuff, landed spots in three events. Laur earned both 200 butterfly and 400 IM spots and McDuff secured a spot in the and 100 freestyle. Representing the senior class, Mitchell earned two spots in the 200 and 400 free, and Chaney earned a spot in the 100 backstroke.
Freshman Bella Sims leads the female Gators, earning spots in the 200 and 400 free and 200 IM. Junior Emma Weyant landed a spot in the 400 IM. Olympic medalist and Assistant Coach, Annie Lazor, earned a spot in the 200 breast. A breaststroke specialist, she is one of the top performers all-time in the women’s 200 Breast SCM with a 2:16.33, a top-10 ever recorded time.
