American Athletic Conference Weekly Football Honors – Sept. 11

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the week-ending Sept. 9.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JT Daniels • Sr. • QB • Rice

Daniels matched his career high with 401 passing yards in Rice’s 43-41 double-overtime win against Houston, giving the Owls possession of the Bayou Bucket trophy for the first time since 2010. Daniels completed 28 of 41 passes and three first-quarter touchdowns and engineered scoring drives on the Owls’ first four possessions, helping Rice build an early 28-0 lead.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Trey Moore • Sr. • LB • UTSA

Moore led a UTSA defense that limited Texas State to 242 total yards and 31 rushing yards in the Roadrunners’ 20-13 victory. He finished with a team-high seven tackles, including three sacks – the most by an FBS player in the young season. Moore enters Week 3 as the national leader in sacks (2.0 per game) and is fourth in FBS in tackles for loss (2.5 per game).

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Chase Allen • Jr. • K • UTSA

Allen was perfect on placements in his UTSA debut, helping the Roadunners to a 20-13 win against Texas State. A transfer from Alabama, Allen went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, connecting from 46 and 43 yards, and finished with eight points against the Bobcats.

HONOR ROLL

Demetrius Knight II • Sr. • LB • Charlotte

Had a team-high seven tackles and a 16-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 38-20 loss at Maryland.

DJ Bell • RFr. • DB • Memphis

Had six tackles and a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 37-3 win at Arkansas State.

Clay Cromwell • Sr. • DT • Navy

Had a career-high eight tackles with a tackle for loss in a 24-0 win against Wagner, Navy’s first shutout at home since 1994.

Byrum Brown • RFr. • QB • South Florida

Figured in five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing) in a 38-24 win against Florida A&M.

Kevorian Barnes • So. • RB • UTSA

Rushed for 103 yards on 26 carries, turning in his fourth consecutive 100-yard game, in a 20-13 win against Texas State.
