DAVENPORT AMONG NATION’S BEST
Taylor Davenport of Temple has had a hot start to her senior season. She leads the nation in total points (140.5) and total kills (123) and is 3rd in the nation in points per set (6.11) and kills per set (5.35). Her success on the court has helped lead the Owls to a 6-1 start to the season – the best record in The American. Davenport and the Owls will take on No. 12 Penn State on Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
SHOCKERS SWEEP WEEKEND
After losing their first two matches of the season, Wichita State won all three matches last weekend to start a three-match winning streak. The winning streak includes a five-set win over Big Ten opponent Illinois in Champaign. The Shockers will look to stay hot this weekend which features a home match against No. 22 Kansas on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
MUSTANGS DEFEAT NO. 14 BAYLOR
SMU picked up their largest ranked win in program history on Wednesday night, defeating No. 14 Baylor in five sets in Moody Coliseum. It marks their first win over a ranked opponent since 2015 against No. 18 San Diego and their first ranked win in Moody Coliseum since 2014 when they defeated No. 24 Oklahoma. Natalie Perdue shined, recording 16 kills, 13 digs and five blocks.
WEEKEND FORECAST
Six matches this weekend will feature an American squad taking on a team ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Top 25 poll. SMU will feature two of those matches, taking on No. 20 Purdue in West Lafayette on Friday at 7 p.m. then pacing either No. 19 Kentucky or No. 21 Houston the following day at 4 p.m.
