Scoring In Bunches
SMU is tied for 19th in the country in total goals, scoring 9 times in four games, while Florida Atlantic is 21st in the nation scoring 2.33 goals per game. The Owls are also tied for the 5th most goals scored in a single game this season, scoring six times in their win over Lipscomb on August 24.
Rodrigues dos Santos Leading the Way
Memphis junior midfielder Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos heads into the weekend leading the nation with three game-winning goals. With a 3-0-1 record on the season, the Tigers currently sit atop the standings in The American before starting conference play next weekend.
Early Season Tests
Three American squads have gone up against Top 25 foes this week. All three matches ended in draws, as No. 22 SMU tied No. 25 Oral Roberts 1-1, Tulsa , No. 11 FIU tied No. 6 UCF 2-2, and Tulsa tied No. 13 Missouri State 1-1.
American in the Rankings
FIU and SMU both remain ranked in both the United States Coaches and Top Drawer Soccer (TDS) Top 25 polls. FIU is ranked 11th in the United State Coaches poll and 25th in the TDS poll, while SMU comes in at 22nd in the United States Coaches poll and 20th in the TDS poll.
On Deck
A full slate of games is on deck for The American in men’s soccer including two matches against Top 25 opponents. South Florida will host No. 15/7 Indiana on Friday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+, while FIU will travel to No. 5/16 Akron for a 7 p.m. ET start on FloSports next Tuesday, September 11.
