Broward Teacher and Broward Teachers Union reach agreement

From David Volz

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and the Broward Teachers Union (BTU) reached tentative agreements on the distribution of referendum funds for teachers and supplement payments for Speech Language Pathologists (SLP). The negotiated disbursement of referendum funds will be paid annually through the 2026/27 school year.

“The School Board and I are excited to reach tentative agreements with the BTU and thank all of our teachers for their patience and support during this process,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Peter B. Licata. “This increase reflects an investment made possible by the voters of Broward County in support of teacher salaries on the referendum. We are thankful for their support. We must continue to elevate teachers’ salaries to reflect the incredible dedication, commitment and responsibilities of our professional educators.”

“After urging the School District to increase supplements for veteran teachers, the Broward Teachers Union has reached a tentative agreement with the District on Memoranda of Understanding regarding the distribution of referendum funds through the 2026/27 school year, and supplement payments for Speech-Language Pathologists,” said BTU President Anna Fusco. “We had fruitful conversations with Superintendent Dr. Licata to ensure that his team came to the table ready to settle these two tentative agreements, and he was very receptive to making sure it happened so he could make good on his word.”
