BIRMINGHAM – UAB Women’s Basketball Head Coach Randy Norton has announced the Blazers’ 2023-24 nonconference schedule.
The 11-game slate features six home games – including a renewed rivalry – as well as two tournaments.
“Our nonconference schedule will present the challenges we need to prepare our team as we enter our first season in the American,” said Norton.
UAB will open the season with an exhibition game hosting Shorter Nov. 1.
The regular season begins on Nov. 6 at home against Alabama A&M. The Blazers remain at Bartow to host Western Carolina Nov. 13.
For the first time in program history, UAB will participate in the Great Alaska Shootout. Nov. 18, the Blazers play Eastern Kentucky followed by the winner of preseason No. 5 Utah and Alaska Anchorage the following day.
UAB returns home for the next two contests against Valparaiso Nov. 25 and Mississippi Valley State Nov. 29.
The rivalry against Auburn resumes for the first time in four years when the Blazers host the Tigers on Dec. 3.
Dec. 9 UAB makes its first-ever trip to Thibodaux, La. when it faces Nicholls.
South Carolina State comes to Bartow on Dec. 12.
The nonconference season wraps up in Philadelphia for the Hawk Classic. On Dec. 20 the Blazers face Wagner followed by either host Saint Joseph’s or New Hampshire the next day.
“We are excited to be playing in two tournaments, the Great Alaska Shootout and Hawk Classic leading into Christmas. We are also thrilled to renew our rivalry with Auburn starting the series in Bartow Arena,” added Norton.
NONCONFERENCE SCHEDULE NOTES
- The last time UAB faced Auburn was Nov. 21, 2019, an 80-75 victory for the Blazers
- Utah reached the Elite Eight last season, falling to eventual champion LSU 66-63
- Auburn and Saint Joseph’s both played in the WNIT last season
- Alaska Anchorage, Saint Joseph’s, Utah and Wagner will be first time opponents
2023-24 SEASON TICKETS
Women’s Basketball season tickets are available for $65 by purchasing the 2023-24 Gold Card. The Gold Card will allow you to gain access to all home events for Women’s Soccer, Men’s Soccer, Volleyball, Women’s Basketball, Softball, and Baseball (Regions Field & Young Memorial). This card is not valid for American Athletic Conference or NCAA Championship events.
