MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced they have acquired INF Jake Burger from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for Minor League pitcher LHP Jake Eder.
Burger, 27, is tied for third in the American League, and tied for eighth in MLB, with 25 home runs this season. The slugging infielder recorded eight home runs in July, tied for fifth most in MLB. He is currently hitting a home run per every 11.76 at bats, the second-best mark in the AL, behind only Shohei Ohtani (10.10).
In 88 games with the White Sox this season, Burger has posted career highs in many offensive categories: runs (44), doubles (15), home runs, and RBI (52). Burger has played in 53 games at third base, five at second base, and five at first base, combining to make just three errors in 149 total chances for a .980 fielding percentage.
The native of St. Louis, Mo. was selected 11th overall by the White Sox in the 2017 First-Year Player Draft and made his MLB debut on July 2, 2021. The infielder played in 154 career games with the White Sox since making his debut, posting a .230 average and .791 OPS, with 27 doubles and 34 home runs.
