Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, the Board of County Commissioners and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs have awarded creative grants to 309 artists who are committed to Miami, through the Miami Individual Artists (MIA) Grants Program.
Following the success of the MIA Program created in 2021, Miami-Dade County established an annual grants program to recognize and support the outstanding contributions of Miami-Dade based professional artists working in all artistic disciplines across the County.
“I am proud to recognize these outstanding and diverse artists that are part of what makes Miami-Dade County a vibrant place to live, work and visit,” stated Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “The cultural, social and economic impact of our visual artists, musicians, poets, playwrights, choreographers and filmmakers is immeasurable. Despite the unprecedented hardships that our local arts community has faced in the last couple of years, they continue to serve our communities and neighborhoods throughout the county every day.”
The MIA Grants Program was first established in 2021 with an American Rescue Plan grant award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The Department of Cultural Affairs was one of only 66 local arts agencies nationally to receive this prestigious federal grant. In distributing $1.5 million to more than 300 creative workers in 2023, Miami-Dade County has continued this important program which encourages professional artists in all disciplines to apply.
“The inspiring work of our incredibly talented artists continues to put Miami on the map,” stated Michael Spring, Director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. “Through the Miami Individual Artists Grants Program, we are recognizing the creativity of artists working in all disciplines and creating work with the distinctive and dynamic voice of our community. It is critically important to continue to support this extraordinarily diverse homegrown talent as they are essential to making Miami-Dade County one of the nation’s newest and most exciting cultural centers.”
