MIAMI – The Miami Marlins tonight selected RHP Noble Meyer with the 10th overall selection, LHP Thomas White with the 35th overall selection, and OF Kemp Alderman with the 47th overall selection in the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Meyer, a right-handed pitcher out of Jesuit High School (Ore.) and White, a left-handed pitcher out of Phillips Academy HS (Mass.), are each considered top prep pitching arms in their class, while the University of Mississippi product Alderman possesses raw hitting power.
Meyer, 18, was named the 2022-2023 Gatorade Oregon Baseball Player of the Year following his senior season, leading his high school team to the state championship with a 10-1 record in 31 games, posting a 0.33 ERA, 128 strikeouts, and 19 walks over 63.0 innings pitched. The 6-foot-5 right-hander from West Linn, Ore. was ranked No. 7 overall by Baseball America, No. 8 by MLB Pipeline, and No. 9 by ESPN.com. Additionally, Meyer was named the No. 4 prospect in the Class of 2023 by Prep Baseball Report.
White, 18, finished his senior season with a 5-2 record, 1.66 ERA, 95 strikeouts, and allowed just 10 hits over 42.0 innings pitched. The 6-foot-5 southpaw was named back-to-back Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year in 2021-22 and 2022-23, striking out a combined 165 batters in 75.0 total innings in his junior and senior seasons. White, from Rowley, Mass. was ranked No. 19 overall by Baseball America, No. 24 by MLB Pipeline, and No. 25 by ESPN.com. The prep pitcher was also selected First Team All-New England by the New England Baseball Journal in 2021.
Alderman, 20, posted a .376 AVG and 1.149 OPS in 54 games with the Ole Miss Rebels during his junior season in 2023. His 19 home runs were the third-most in program history, and his 80 hits and 151 total bases were the fourth highest in the SEC during the regular season. The Decatur, Mich. native was named the 2023 Bob Ferriss Trophy winner, becoming the first University of Mississippi player to win the award since 2014. Alderman also earned honors as Second Team All-SEC, First Team All-South Region, 2023 NCBWA Second Team All-American, and was a 2022 College World Series champion at the University of Mississippi.
