DOHA, QATAR – (Saturday, Oct. 5) – Florida Atlantic University senior Natalliah Whyte ended her yearlong of training on a high note, as she captured a gold medal in the 4×100 at the 2019 International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships. The team crossed the line at 41.44 seconds on Saturday night in the finals after recording a 42.11 in the heats on Friday.
Whyte represented her home country of Jamaica and competed alongside Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Janielle Smith and Shericka Jackson. The quartet zoomed past the competition leaving Great Britain in second and the United States in third. Whyte was the opening leg of the relay.
The championship marked the third Gold in the last five World Championships for Jamaica in the 4×100. Additionally, competing in Doha represented Whyte’s first senior championship competing for her home country.
Whyte will be back in an Owl uniform one last time for FAU’s indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. She will look to repeat on the historical junior year she had, as a record breaker and the Owls’ first NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships qualifier.
