FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks Athletics Department enjoyed another incredible winter semester, which featured tremendous success in both the classroom and in competition. In total, Sharks athletics won three team NCAA Division II National Championships – Women’s Swimming, Men’s Basketball and Men’s Golf – and totaled 13 individual national titles across both men’s and women’s swimming, and women’s golf. In the classroom, NSU student-athletes continue to raise the standard of excellence, achieving 26 consecutive semesters of a departmental grade-point-average above 3.00, while 183 were named as scholar-athletes – GPA’s higher than 3.25.
Rachel Fineberg, the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services/Senior Woman Administrator and Title XI Coordinator, leads the academic effort for the Nova Southeastern Athletic programs and continues to build a foundation of academic success for the Sharks.
Our Shark student-athletes continue to raise the bar each year with their academic achievements,” stated Fineberg. “Considering all their athletic successes this year, it should come as no surprise that the Sharks are a highly motivated, dedicated and talented group of young people. Those same traits are reflected in their academic pursuits. As an administration, we are so proud of the manner in which our student-athletes represent NSU.”
Overall, in the winter semester 81% of Shark student-athletes finished with a GPA higher than 3.00, 84 earned Director’s List honors (above 3.80) and 39 recorded perfect 4.00 GPAs. Both the Men’s Golf (3.63) and Women’s Tennis (3.74) programs set new winter semester GPA records, which were also the highest among the men’s and women’s athletic teams.
Cumulatively, Sharks athletics finished the winter semester with a 3.41 departmental GPA and set a new record for departmental GPA in 2022-23, as the student-athletes achieved a 3.46 GPA across the fall and winter semesters. 89 student-athletes completed their degrees during the 2022-23 academic year, while three programs – Baseball, Men’s Golf, and Men’s Swimming – recorded the best annual team GPA.
