Softball Falls in Semifinals

TAMPA, May 12, 2023 – The University of South Florida softball team (32-24) fell to the Central Florida Knights (38-19) in the semifinals of the 2023 American Athletic Conference Softball Tournament on Friday afternoon at the USF Softball Stadium, 2-0.  

South Florida went hitless through three innings. In the top of the fourth innings, junior Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel) broke up UCF’s perfect game with a single up the middle.  

USF’s next two hits came in the fifth inning when Marissa Trivelpiece (Sugarloaf, Pa.) and Rian Eigenmann (Millville, N.J.) hit back-to-back singles. A double play ended the inning, and the Bulls were still scoreless.  

In the top of the seventh, the Bulls had the tying run at the plate. Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers) reached on a Knights fielding error. A flyout and a double play would end the game.  

Redshirt freshman Payton Dixon (Smyrna, Del.) earned her 15th start of the season. The left-hander pitched five innings, allowing three hits, and striking out two. Ponn and Gabriella Nori (Weston) pitched one combined inning.   

NOTABLES 

  • Kadlub went 2-for-3 at the plate. 
  • Trivelpiece and Eigenmann each had a hit. 
  • Dixon led the Bulls with two strikeouts.
