63 Gators to Compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays
31 teams come to Gainesville to take part in the Pepsi Florida Relays
GAINESVILLE, FL. – On Friday, the Florida Gators Track and Field host the first of two home meets during the 2023 outdoor season as the Pepsi Florida Relays begin. The Pepsi Florida Relays began in 1939, and since the first meet, the event has grown into one of the nation’s premier track and field meets, hosting high school, college, and professional athletes.
This year the Pepsi Florida Relays features 32 college teams, including the Florida Gators. Florida will have 63 athletes compete in 36 total events. On the men’s side, five of the visiting teams enter Gainesville in the top-25, while in the women’s competition seven teams are ranked in the top-25 with three positioned in the top-5 in the most recent rankings.
High schools from all around Florida and Georgia will take part in the meet over the course of the two days.
At the FSU Relays, the first competition of the outdoor season for the Gators, Ashley Klingenberg earned the women’s 800m title (2:11.69), Cavan Wilson (3:52.31) and Kathryn Nohilly (4:25.56) swept the men’s and women’s 1500m titles, and Devin Willis placed first in the men’s javelin (58.03m/190’4″). Florida tallied eight new personal best by seven athletes at the FSU Relays.
PEPSI FLORIDA RELAYS MEET INFORMATION (all times Eastern)
On Friday, the Gators will participate in 18 different events, starting with Imani Washington who will make her second collegiate appearance as she competes in the women’s hammer throw. Following the hammer throw, the Gators begin running events at 11:55 a.m. with the men’s 4×800 relay.
Florida will compete in 22 events on day two of the competition, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with Calvin Bostic and Logan Montgomery competing in men’s discus competition. At noon four more events being followed by the rest of the day two action.
