No college program has more players on 2023 Opening Day rosters than Florida.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – As the 2023 Major League Baseball season officially begins on Thursday with the arrival of Opening Day, a nation-leading 10 Gators can be found on MLB rosters across the 30 teams.
Florida’s 10 players on MLB Opening Day rosters is tied for first nationally with Vanderbilt. In total, 17 Gators played in the big leagues at some point during the 2022 campaign.
The Gators are represented on 10 different teams across the MLB, including four playoff clubs from the previous campaign. Highlighting the 2023 group is Pete Alonso, who swatted 40 home runs and an MLB-high 131 RBI last season. He is joined in the NL East by Dalton Guthrie of the reigning National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies, as well as breakout starter Brady Singer, who fired 153 1/3 innings of 3.58 ERA ball for the Royals a year ago.
Across the program’s history, Florida has produced 81 MLB players. 29 Gators have debuted from Head Coach Kevin O’Sullivan<https://floridagators.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1445>’s tenure while a grand total of 99 of O’Sullivan’s players have had their names called on draft day.
